In the heart of Hobart; 7 minutes to the city and
Salamanca Markets.
The Tassie Holiday Home is a
very comfortable self contained 3 bedroom home. The 2nd storey bedroom provides
beautiful views of Mt. Wellington, and uninterrupted morning sun. The Tassie Holiday Home provides modern lifestyle living, and a
very comfortable retreat to relax after a day's exploring Hobart and its
surrounds.
The Tassie Holiday Home is only 4.5 km from the centre of Hobart with accessibility to sightseeing and tours. There are many attractions within 30 minutes drive, including Richmond, Salamanca markets on Saturday mornings, local wineries, Mt. Wellington and - for the sweet tooth - Cadbury’s Chocolate Factory. The Museum of Old and New Art is about 15 minutes away by car. The ruins of the prison at Port Arthur are about 100km away, and are best scheduled as a full or three-quarter day trip.
Regarding the wineries: One of us visited the Pooley and Palmara wineries on a half day trip out to Richmond in December 2011. Our taste is more for Pooley than Palmara, but tastes are different. You might wish to get on Pooley's mailing list, as - if they call you during the low tourist season to get you to buy - you may be able to get bottles 25% cheaper than at the cellar door (go figure!). I bought a few, anyway, to drink while in Hobart.
If good food is your scene, you might wish to try Garagistes. But be warned: they have taken on the mainland attitude where "we don't take bookings, so you'd best line up like the rest of 'em". We didn't go, but the place has been recommended to us by a local. The name? I seem to recall that this was a mechanics' workshop when I was growing up in Hobart; there's a review here.
During our visit in December 2011, we (the owners) went on a Bruny Island Cruise (best planned as a day trip); we highly recommend it! We should also point out that there is a bakery (fresh bread, yay!) across the road (about 30 metres) from the house. We haven't negotiated any deals with them, but we recommend them - especially their pavlova. But note that we found them closed between Christmas and New Year.
